To start, connect the dsl port on the Modem/router CenturyLink device (will call it "modem") to the wall phone jack and then plug in the power cable. Also connect the Google WiFi to power. Do not connect the two devices via ethernet yet. Once they are both powered on, factory reset both devices.

The pucks are probably fine for most people, but if you want to create a really solid wifi network with hardwired access points, and/or managed switches, and/or have a large number of devices connected to the network at once, and/or want WiFi 6, then you have the option to use your own router without any hassle (only on the 1Gb plan!)

Had to do exactly this - unmanaged switch downstream from my main puck. Moved from business class internet to residential, so only 1 Ethernet switch on the modem. Work from home - can't use wifi, only wired. So modem>puck>switch>work PC. Works wonderfully

Checking last night on the Google Home app (and the Google Wifi app for that matter) and I notice the 2 x wired pucks are listed as "Mesh" instead. I do some homework and end up factory resetting them, which knocks my whole wifi out - all pucks listed as "Not Connected". I then go and power them all off and one-by-one power them back up.
